Honestly they all are very nice cities and they all have their perks. So it really depends what type of things you are interested in. From my experience and what I heard from friends they all have decent night life, the are all fairly equal with cost and as far as danger goes I think they are about the same. Each city has their “areas” which are a little more undesirable.
With that said I have personal experience with Vancouver and Toronto (lived in both).
Vancouver is an outdoor persons paradise. You have the mountains and the ocean on your door step. Beautiful parks and forests. If being outdoors is not your thing the city has so many things to do without even diving into the whole outdoor experience. We have some amazing restaurants. Lots of entertainment to be had. Plus getting around is convenient with the Ferry, Sky Train, and Bus Systems. http://www.tourismvancouver.com/visitors/
Toronto is a beautiful city as well. I found the night life to be amazing. Some really nice restaurants. It managed to keep me busy and entertained for a few days. They also have some great shopping centers that are worth checking out if that’s your cup of tea. I enjoyed myself quite a bit when I lived here. http://www.seetorontonow.com/
Montreal I can’t really help you with other then to say my friends that live there absolutely love it. http://www.tourisme-montreal.org/
